Armadillidium vulgare "High Yellow"

Armadillidium vulgare "High Yellow" isopods for sale!

The "high yellow" variety of A. vulgare display a yellow to gold base with some displaying a slight purpley undertone. They have the usual gorgeous striping and swirlies on their segments that vulgare display.

Armadillidium vulgare, commonly known as the "common roly poly".  They were originally found in the UK, but have now been distributed worldwide and are the most common isopod you can go out and find in your backyard.  They can be found in nearly any climate and are very successful in adapting to their environment making them an excellent beginner pod.  Although very hardy and tolerable of a variety on environments, they do seem to thrive the best in a semi-arid environment and they tend to have issues molting in environments that are too moist.  They are not as protein driven as many other species so they make a great clean up crew for reptiles and other sensitive species, but will much on soft bodied plants, so you will want to use caution if you want to add them to a terrarium with live plants if you don't want them being snacked on.  They are naturally found in a wide array of coloring, most commonly a shade of gray to black and that may or may not display rows (typically three rows) of white, yellow or orange splotches that will vary in size and intensity.
